TH0RNCLIFFE TURF NOTES e + TORONTO, Ont., May 20. Jockey E. T. Moore was an arrival from Kentucky and will ride for the L. M. Shea stable on the Canadian circuit. The following horsemen have arranged to ship from here to Montreal in time for the opening of the Delorimier Park meeting: A. Brent, P. J. Miles, H. Haymaker, J. Phillips, W. G. Campbell, G. K. Allen, J. OConnor and J. Hages. Jockey J. Horn and C. Compton accompany the shipments. Fine Lady, a Canadian-bred mare, the property of J. Bedame, dropped dead after being breezed at Woodbine this morning. Fine Lady, by Knights Differ, was bred by J. C. Fletcher. The two-year-old Puck Chaser, the property of Conny Smythe, was gelded. Jockey I. C. Gordon has severed his connection with the J. E. Smallman stable and will ride as a freelance during the remainder of the season. George Peterson came up from Hamilton for the afternoons sport. Peterson is training ten two-year-olds for F. A. Griffith, a newcomer in racing. Mr. Griffith has rather an extensive stock farm in the Genesee Valley, New York, and contemplates breeding the horses he will race. His plans are to attend the sale of the G. A. Cochran horses at Belmont Park and add a couple of older horses to his string. During the afternoon the stewards issued the following notice: For striking another rider with his whip after the finish of then first race, May 19, jockey C. Phillips was suspended for the remainder of the meeting and fined 5. For giving misleading answers in the inquiry in this case, jockey A. McKechnie was fined 5. With the opening of Woodbine there will be several additions to the riding colony. Jockey Albert Robertson, who is coming on to ride the C. V. Whitney horses, is due to reach here Saturday morning. He is being accompanied by Ernie Lynch, who will make his engagements. |
