ARLINGTON PARK STAKES Joe McLennan at Belmont Park in Interest of Second Closing of Classic and Other Rich Prizes. NEW YORK, N. Y., May 27.— Joseph McLennan, racing secretary for both Arlington Park and Hawthorne, is a visitor at Belmont Park in the interest of the supplementary closing of the Arlington Park stakes. This closing date is Monday, June 1, and he reported that he had obtained a large number of nominations not only for the Classic, which this year will gross probably more than 0,000, but also for the rich Post and Paddock Stakes, for the two-year-olds. Many of the juveniles that have recently come to hand have been named for the Post and Paddock and among the late entries for the Classic is that of the Alton Stables A La Carte, recent winner of the Ohio State Derby at Bainbridge Park. This good colt is back at Belmont Park after his Ohio journey and Clarence Buxton reports that he is in the best of condition. McLennan pointed out that in three weeks of Chicago racing this year a total of 00,-000 will be distributed in prizes for three-year-olds, though naturally in some of the prizes they will be called upon to meet older horses. These big opportunities are the Classic; Arlington Cup. which may run to 8,000, Arlington Handicap of 5,000 and the Hawthorne Handicap that cannot be less than 4,000. In telling of recent improvements at Arlington Park, McLennan explained that under the stable scheme the help are under a different roof than the horses. In this manner the peril of fire is lessened. Frequently race course fires begin in the tack room or in the stalls furnished as sleeping quarters for the men and boys. With the help in another building, at the end of the stable, this fire danger is naturally greatly reduced. McLennan will return to Chicago Monday, after the supplementary closing of the Arlington stakes.
