Bruce Head, resident manager of Lin- coin Fields and steward at Churchill Downs and Latonia, arrived from Louisville and will remain for the major part of the meet- ing. In the opinion of William Owens, who is in charge of the jockeys quarters at Washington Park, a new mark for the track was established when forty-one different riders had one or more mounts Tuesday afternoon. The previous high mark was thirty-five, Owens stated. Herbert M. Woolf, prominent Kansas City patron, is expected here Thursday from that city. His capable and popular Lady Broad- cast is a scheduled starter in the ,000 added Robert M. Sweitzer Handicap, the stake feature of Saturdays racing at Wash- ington Park. John F. Schorr transferred all of the horses he brought here for Edward B. Mc- Lean to race in his own colors. Before leaving Douglas Park, Louisville, Jack Howard sent the filly Vesta and The Spaniard, a two-year-old, to his Rockwood Farm, where they will run out until fall when they will be taken up and prepared for winter racing. J. P. Headley, who sent seven of the Texas Stable horses to Bainbridge Park in charge of E. J. OConnell, has the filly Is- saquena and five juveniles here to represent that Texas-owned stable. As evidenced by his performance in the Olympia Fields Handicap Tuesday, C. V. Whitneys Bargello is not well suited by the Washington Park track in its present deep but very safe condition and he may decline in the Robert M. Sweitzer Handicap Satur- day. M. Goldblatt, trainer of the Whitney stable, may start his own Jimmy Moran in the mentioned race. The Madden Brothers The Mongol, Con- science, Bosafabo and Claret were taken over today by W. S. "Chuck" Walker, veteran colored trainer, who arrived today from New York. H. H. Battle arrived at Lincoln Fields from Louisville with King Pin and Madelon, and W. C. Weant unloaded sixteen, also campaigned at Churchill Downs, at the same track. Jockey C. E. Allen, who was indisposed Tuesday, resumed riding this afternoon. Jockey D. Trivett, contract rider for the Forthway Stable, was an arrival from California, and will be seen in action tomorrow. Word was received that the La Brae Stable of H. H. Cotton, California oil magnate, would be shipped to Hawthorne about August 1. The horses are at present resting at the ranch at San Clemente, California. Basil Smith, who in the past year has handled the engagements of jockeys W. Johns, R. West and H. Roble, all first class apprentice riders, will make the engagements of apprentice M. Lewis at this meeting. J. C. McGill, western owner, was an arrival. On his trip east he picked up the plater Patuxant, which had been turned out near Collinsville, 111., and shipped him to eastern Canada for summer racing. S. W. Labrot has wired that he will ship his string of twenty from Maryland. They are expected to arrive on Saturday and will be quartered at Lincoln Fields.
