CARLETON STABLE DOUBLE » Click Completes Twin Victory By Winning Youngstown Handicap. « Race Results in Most Thrilling Finish of Meeting — Tempus Furnishes Surprise in Juvenile Race. • CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 27.— Click, speedy son of High Time, captured the Youngstown Handicap, the fifth and feature offering at Bainbridge Park this afternoon, which marked a double for the Carleton Stable, trained by Vic Gallo. The Blue Star Stables Malolo and Ed McCuans Flag Bearer divided the minor portions of the purse, finishing in that order, with Hypoluxo a close fourth and gaining fast. This race provided the most thrilling finish of the meeting, and the result was in doubt until the official placing was displayed. Flag Bearer showed the way, closely followed by Click and Malolo, until reaching the last sixteenth. Click was forced to work his way up in close quarters next to the inner rail, while Malolo moved up on the outside. Click secured a slight lead fifty yards from the finish, but Malolo finished the strongest and would have won in another stride. One of the largest mid-week-day crowds of the meeting witnessed the sport, and it was highly interesthing. Ideal conditions prevailed. The weather was summerlike and the track at its best. Skillfully rated along in front for the entire distance by jockey Horn, Fairyman was never really threatened during the running of the second race. President Seth followed in closest attendance until midway in the stretch, but Amsterdam displaced him in the final furlong to secure second place. It was only after keen urging that President Seth lasted to save third from the fast finishing Ping Coates, which gained much ground. Amsterdam, with jockey Mattioli up, swerved to the inside shortly after the start came for this race and in doing so caused much crowding. This practically caused the elimination of Doc, Supertoy and My Scoop. Despite the interference Supertoy showed a sparkling effort in closing a big gap, indicating that had she not suffered in this respect should would have been a formidable factor at the finish. Taking command shortly after the start, "Doc" Watsons Finir scored his second success of the meeting in winning the initial race with ridiculous ease. Calwick raced in closest pursuit of the winner and was a handy second. Glad Effort, following a slow beginning, dropped into third place when Grierson tired. Tempus, racing for the Carleton Stable, and Fred Almy, raced closely lapped contesting for the leadership all through the stretch in the third race. Tempus proved the gamest in the final drive, scoring by a head. Noahs Pride was never far from the leaders and came with a rush on the outside in the final sixteenth, finishing a close third and going fastest of all. Clare Bee and Marcelet also finished fast at the end. After showing a flash of early speed Southtour quit to a walk. Encounter led Germaine Chauvelot and The Judge for half the distance in the fourth race. Approaching the stretch turn, however, Encounter showed distress, and the latter pair continued to fight it out. All through the stretch they raced closely lapped, with Germaine Chauvelot slightly in advance until the last seventy yards. The Judge then drew clear. Germaine Chauvelot was an easy second, and Distress Signal came from the rear to outlast the tiring Encounter for the minor award.
