CONNAUGHT PARK INAUGURAL * Aylmer Plant Entertains Large Crowd on Opening Day. ♦ Donny Johnny Karris First Canadian Purse of Season in Feature Race; — Good Weather Prevails. OTTAWA, Ont., June 3.— Donny Johnny, racing for H. Simpson, scored his initial Canadian success this season when he took the major honors in the Queen City Purse, the stellar attraction offered for the in- auguration of the Connaught Park Jockey Club spring term of racing today. Contesting for honors with the Simpson colorbearer were six others of good grade, and in a driving finish Wu, racing for Mrs. J. D. Misick, landed second place. The favorite, Chatty, from the Seagram Stable, earned third place. Nose Gay was an exceedingly close fourth and easily led home Al Living- ston, Vimont and Tall Grass. The Queen City Purse occupied fourth place on the Kings Birthday program, and from a good start Wu took the lead, with Chatty at his flanks and Donny Johnny in advance of the remaining four starters. Chatty was challenging Wu, and as the field approached the final turn the Misick colorbearer dropped back. Chatty, for a brief period, took command, but his effort was short lived as Donny Johnny quickly displaced the Seagram starter and, under the steady pressure of his rider, R. Cooper, was victorious by two and a half lengths, with Wu beating Chatty by a head for sec- ond place. Ideal weather conditions prevailed for the Connaught Park opening, and it was a ban- ner gathering that journeyed to the Aylmer course to welcome the return of the thoroughbreds. Track conditions could hardly have been improved upon, and fast time was recorded.
