REAL VETERAN OF TURF TORONTO, Ont., June 3.— Occupying the e post of paddock judge at Long Branch is s one of the real veterans of the turf in the e person of E. W. Moore, more commonly f called "Uncle Ed". Mr. Moore has been i actively engaged with the runners either r as an owner or trainer since 1885, and before c that was a devotee of the harness horse. A native of Nashville, Tenn., he has gained 1 an enviable reputation as a jockey maker that entitles him to rank with the late p Father Bill" Daly, Stuart Polk and the like. The first rider of importance turned 1 out by Mr. Moore was the colored boy f Thompson Fcehand. Then there came Ben l, Strauss, A. Birdsall, V. Hunt, U. Brown and A. O. Vernon. The best known jockeys I .turned out in the last few years by him i •were Willie Crump, now a successful trainer, and Cliff Robinson. These two boys headed i the American jockey list in the years 1917 and 1919, respectively. Since then he has s developed D. Burney and J. OMalley, both II pilots of more than average ability.
