PROMETHEUS EQUALS RECORD «► Gallops Three -Quarters in 1:11 at Bainbridge Park. » Fair Sex Helps Swell Crowd at Cleveland Course — Merry Windsor Adds to Earnings. 1 CLEVELAND, Ohio, June 22— Prometheus, speedy son of Broomstick, took the measure of the best field starting at Bainbridge Park this afternoon in winning the Shaker Lakes Purse, the fifth race, which served as the feature attraction. W. R. Padgett saddled the winner, which marked his initial success at this meeting. Patricia Marian, racing for George Collins, and I. J. Collins St. Marco, divided the minor portions of the purse. The six furlongs was run in 1:11, which equaled the track record held jointly by Malolo and Genuine, the latter having made his mark two years ago. St. Marco showed the way until midway in the stretch, setting a terrific pace and running the first half-mile in :45%. Mary Cobb was in closest pursuit, with Prometheus following. Jockey J. M. Jones then called upon Prometheus, and he raced past the leaders in the last sixteenth to score handily. Patricia Marian avoided the early pace and, finishing with a rush on the outside, secured second in a drive. St. Marco barely saved third by a head from Mary Cobb, which also showed a creditable effort. The races were run over a fast track, but the weather was cloudy and threaten-ening during much of the afternoon. It was Ladies Day, and the fair sex turned out in large numbers. The racing was decidedly interesting. My Ideal and Amour fought for the leadership closely lapped until well inside the final furlong post in the initial race. My Ideal proved the gamer, however, when the critical stage came and won going away. Amour held the others safe for second. Steadily improving her position while racing on the outside, Zella K. raced into third place handily in the stretch but could never reach the leaders. Chill Wind was prominent in the early stages but tired badly. Jockey R. Montgomery hustled Miss Asama to the front after leaving the back stretch in the second race and opened up such a commanding lead while on the turn for home that the others were never able to gain. Starzan was racing in closest pursuit of the winner to the final furlong, but tired steadily thereafter, leaving Thistle Lass and Chicon to fight it out for the minor portions of the purse. They finished in the order named, Thistle Lass earning the second award by a head in a hard drive. Jockey Montgomery made it a double when he piloted Merry Windsor to victory in the third race. One Cent and Alamae raced closely lapped upon the winner until they were nearing the stretch turn, where Merry Windsor drew clear and held her company safe thereafter. One Cent secured second by the shortest of margins from Alamae after the latter had raced on the outside of her opponents all the way. Participate came strongly next to the inner rail through the stretch and finished a bang up fourth. The others were never serious factors. A keen stretch struggle developed with the running of the fourth race, in which the field made the turn for home closely bunched, with Curator slightly in advance of the others. At this point Knee Glader and Magic Carpet both moved up on the outside. A sixteenth out Magic Carpet had drawn up on even terms with the leaders and took a length lead in the last few yards. In the final drive Knee Glader out-gamed Curator for second place, with Iso-ard a creditable fourth. Rosie Cora ran well to the stretch, then tired steadily. Finishing with a brilliant rush next to the inner rail from last place when entering the stretch, Chiclero overhauled the leaders in the final sixteenth of the sixth race, and in a rousing finish won by three-quarters of a length. Captains Daughter, the pacemaker, held on with good courage when the final drive came to save second by a narrow margin from the fast finishing Norse. Lanier was prominent on the turn for home but tired steadily thereafter.
