BERTJOHN, forced to lose ground throughout and particularly on the turn, worked his way up gradually after reaching the long stretch and, heading VISHNU, closed fast. The latter showed good speed was hustled along and tired in the last sixteenth. ESSENTIAL, close up from the start, saved ground on the stretch turn and held on well. DIS DAT began fast, was sent along under brisk urging after reaching the turn and tired. MONKS FIRST appeared to bear out on the turn. THE WHIG began slowly and was never a factor. MARMION raced wide. BRAVE AND BOLD, fractious at the post, but away well showed early speed. PRINCE ASCOT, unable to keep up and shuffled back on the turn, lacked speed when clear Scratched-600813F. BAGGAGE MAID, missing the crowding, raced into the lead, gradually opened up a clear advantage after reaching the turn and, continuing with good speed, won under mild pressure. SCOTCH MADE, also escaping early interference, raced forwardly and, but for her riders persistency in attempting to get through on the inside of the winner in the stretch, might have been closer up. CLARET, in close quarters early, closed fast. BEAUTIFUL DOLL had a rough race and closest fastest of all. PEGGY J., shuffled back on the turn, could not eet to the leaders thereafter. FAIR MISSIE showed early speed. The latter showed speed from the start, saved ground after reaching the turn and held on well. LADY BATTS, pinched back and far out of it for three eighths, closed with a rush. FLUENT was in close quarters early and closed fast. GAY MISS began slowly and raced wide. ANNY J. quit. ANNETTE B., away slowly, was rushed into contention and tired in the stretch. YES had no mishaps. CALF ROPER, close up while racing on the inside for the first five-eighths, responded strongly when hard urged after going to the outside in the stretch and, overtaking AMYVALE, tired, but lasted. The latter, taken into the lead, set a fast pace and held on well after giving way to the winner. LAHOR raced wide for seven-eighths, lost much ground on the turn and bore in badly while closing gamely. TREK closed ground in the stretch. KNIGHT COMMANDER tired badly after showing speed to the final three-sixteenths. PROSE AND POETRY lacked racing room in the first quarter, but gradually improved his position in the closing three eighths and failed to get up. MARTIS, away poorly, tired after working his wav up on the outside. CROFTON began in a tangle after causing a long delay at the start. TEA GREEN had no mishaps. ANN CLAY, away fast, bore out on the first turn, bolted entering the back stretch and tired badly after moving up slightly on the last turn. BLUE LAW was never, a factor.
