FAVORITES IN THE MAJORITY Sixty Per Cent of Public Choices Win During Tropical Park Meeting, Mills Is the Leader. MIAMI, Fla., Jan. 12. With the close of the Inaugural Tropical meeting, president Frank J. Bruen points with pride at the success attained. Both Bruen and Monroe are confident the spring meeting, which opens February 29, will be a success both financially and competitively. While the plant is closed down for six weeks, Bruen will continue the improvements which he was forced to stop with the opening of the new track December 26. It is a matter of record that this was the most formful meeting ever held in the state of Florida. Fifty-four favorites out of ninety-eight races triumphed for a percentage of sixty. The leading owner turned up in J. Q. Fletcher with ,275. He hails from Toronto. J. P. "Buddy" Mayberry was the leading trainer with the saddling of seven winners. Hank Mills, the 16-year-old apprentice, led the riders with twenty-five winners out of sixty-seven mounts. There were no claims of foul registered with the stewards, and only one jockey was suspended. Starter Hamilton set down R. Finnerty for five days because of misbehavior at the post. There were only two poor starts, according to the chart callers. Hamiltons work as a whole was pleasing, both to the Gables Racing Association and the public.
