WIDENER "INSPECTS llEAH Orders Some Minor Changes as His. Staff Makes Ready for This Weeks Opening. MIAMI, Fla., Jan. 12. Results of Joseph E. Wideners inspection of Hialeah Park reconstruction work, following his arrival from Philadelphia Sunday, were immediately apparent at the Miami Jockey Club course. The color scheme of the odds and results boards ,has been ordered changed from yellow lettering on black to a white and green motif, and the gravel dressing on the pathways throughout the ground has been removed. Mr. Widener found that the gravel footing was heavy and discomforting and the firmer surface is a decided improvement. The secretarial staff worked throughout the week-end upon the applications for licenses and badges. The Florida State Racing Commission will meet Tuesday to pass upon licenses and racing secretary John S. Wallace notified the horsemen that all applications should be filed as soon as possible. The badges will be ready for distribution to horsemen on Wednesday. Mortimer M. Mahoney, director of mutuels, had his full staff in attendance during the schooling period yesterday. His clerks are rapidly picking up the operation of ticket issuers and for several hours the latter were connected with the main totalizator units and odds boards and the full mechanism swung smoothly through the regular racing routine.
