LEADING AMERICAN JOCKEYS Gilbert Elston continues to ride in brilliant form at New Orleans, getting seven winners last week to increase his total to forty-six for the year. A formidable rival, however, in the person of J. Gilbert has loomed up and with another great week in which he scored with nine of his mounts, gave him second place in the standing and a total of forty-one winners. His nine winners also gave him the honors for last week. Melvin Lewis rode five winners and S. Coucci none and as a result both dropped in the standing of the thirty leading American riders, whose records, from January 1 up to and including the racing of last Sunday, are as follows: Jockey.
