I TROPICAL PARK TURF NOTES j . : Basil Smith was an arrival from Cuba, and plans to motor to Columbia, S. C, Thursday. He will be accompanied by jockeys F. Horn and C. Reynolds, both of whom are under contract to the Buxton Brothers. Smith made the engagements of these boys during the winter meeting at Oriental Park. Pat Remillard was an arrival from New Orleans. He put in his application for a jockeys license and plans to ride here as a free lance. H. E. Brown obtained a contract on the apprentice W. Dawson. The lad can do ninety pounds and is said to be a promising jockey. A. E. Van Ree got in from New Orleans with Stupendous, Nim the Nymph and two others. Jockey M. Clancey accompanied the stable. Tom Thorp, who is looking after the interests of the Empire City track, reports a large response to the stakes entries, which closed this afternoon. All of the prominent stables that raced at Hialeah and Tropical Park made nominations to these events. The Whitney racer Fatalist, which fell lame in his last race at Hialeah Park, was shipped to the Brookdale Farm at Red Bank, N. J. The horse stepped on a stone during the running of the race and bruised his foot. Jockey Harry Callahan was at the course this afternoon hobbling on crutches. Callahan reports that his leg, which was painfully bruised, is responding to treatment. He has made reservation to leave Thursday and goes direct to Belmont Park to report to his contract employer Max Hirsch. ;
