SHARP THOUGHTS FORMIDABLE Vantages Star Consistent and Willing Racer Ready for Tanforan. trainer Finnegan Signs to Train Horses of Mrs. Agnes Compton and Charles A. Hartwell. SAN BRUNO, Calif., March 23 Sharp jfThoughts won in the best company at Tanforan last fall and probably .will be in top condition for the meeting which opens .Thursday, March 31. The California-bred three-year-old is the kind that is called upon to give away plenty of weight and that is a sure indication of class. The clever trainer, William Finnegan, has Sharp Thoughts and three others owned by Alexander Pantages for the approaching meeting. Sharp Thoughts scored eight times for Finnegan last year and there is no telling how many contests he will account for in the racing, east and west, during the present year. Ever a favorite performer among the many worthy thoroughbreds that come to Tanforan in the spring and fall, Sharp Thoughts holds his form remarkably well. At Agua Caliente he has been beating the best. The esteem in which the Pantages racer is held is shown by the concessions he had to make in weight to such a highly regarded one as Joe Flores, at one time first choice for the Agua Caliente Handicap. Finnegan recently signed a contract to train the horses of Mrs. Agnes Compton and Charles A. Hartwell, but it is stipulated in the agreement that he should still be allowed to train the Pantages string. The trainer would hardly consent to give up Sharp .Thoughts no matter how alluring the offer to train the horses of other ownership. The brown gelding is by Tracerys son Bis-touri, from the High Time mare Timely Thoughts. That blood means speed and stamina, too. Following are the dates of the outstanding races at Tanforan: Saturday, April 9 Tanforan Spring Special Handicap, one mile and a sixteenth, not less than ,500 added. Saturday, April 16 Bay Area Handicap, one mile and seventy yards, not less than ,000 added. Saturday, April 23 Oakland Handicap, one mile and an eighth, not less than ,000 added. Saturday, April 30 Derby Candidates Handicap, one mile and an eighth, not less than ,000 added. Saturday, May 7 Governor Rolph Handicap, one mile and an eighth, not less than ,000 added. Saturday, May 14 Au Revoir Handicap, one mile and a sixteenth, not less than ,000 added.
