T NEW YORK TURF NOTES ? $ Lavelle "Buddy" Ensor, who staged his comeback at Havana last winter, arrived in New York and was a visitor at The Jockey Club. Ensors application for a license was laid over for further consideration. Earl Steffen, contract rider for the Mrs. John Hertz stable, arrived from Chicago and reported to trainer Bill Knapp at Belmont Park. Jockey H. Thurber notified trainer George Odom that he would arrive the latter part of this week. Linus McAtee reported to Trainer Odom at Belmont Park ready for work. The head rider of the stable kept himself physically fit golfing and swimming during the winter. Bill McKnight, who trained the Marshall Field-R. L. Gerry horses at Miami, is in Kentucky, on a vacation. McKnight reports back to Belmont Park next week. E. Creechs Dr. Freeland, which raced disappointingly in the Agua Caliente Handicap, did not like the hard track that prevailed, according to word received at Belmont Park. The J. E. Widener horses will not be seen under colors until the opening at Belmont Park, according to Trainer McDaniel.
