COLD STOPS NORTHERN TREK Only Three Cars of Horses Shipped From New Orleans. reconlc Stable Sent Direct to Churchill Downs Knight Commander Retired for Summer Months. NEW .ORLEANS, La., March 23. The cold blast that struck the southland Tuesday morning forced a temporary lull in the transfer of thoroughbreds that campaigned at the Fair Grounds and Jefferson Park during the winter. Horsemen showed no inclination to run into the cold North at the present time and intended shipments were cancelled. Only three cars of horses left the local tracks during the day. These were the stables of A. Pelleteri, New Orleans horseman; Peconic Stable, and the horses belonging to W. Meehan, D. Hoffman and C. Ormesby. The latter trio departed for Lexington, to prepare for the meeting at that point. Pelleteris destination was Bowie. In all he had thirteen head. The Peconic table, in charge of E. Hay-ward, went direct to Churchill Downs. This string comprised seven head, and there are to be eight more added upon arrival at Louisville. Prior to departing, Hayward stated that. Knight Commander and Calf Roper would be turned out for the summer months. However, it is the intention to have them available for fall racing on the Chicago circuit. Phil Reuter, prior to his departure Monday night, stated that Chief John and Camp Prince, which have been wintering at Douglas Park, would be taken up on his arrival at Louisville and placed in training with a view of having them ready for Arlington Park racing, and later a fall campaign on various Maryland tracks. Mrs. Reuter, who has been ill for some time, will return to a sanitarium at Battle Creek, Mich., for an indefinite period. C. H. Knebelkamp, who, together with Richard Morris, owns Spanish Play and other horses, is due to return here Wednesday from Agua Caliente. Knebelkamp will supervise the shipment of his horses to Louisville. Three of the string will proceed to Aurora in the care of J. Umensetter. The Three Ds Stock Farm horses, trained by J. F. Schorr, are booked to start for Louisville next Monday. Schorr will have eighteen head to race at Churchill Downs, including Liberty Limited, a Kentucky Der-Dy hopeful. The stables of W. Lutz and F. Tansor have made arrangements to ship to Aurora March 28 and on the same date E. Lutz will transfer eight head to Bainbridge Park. Another shipment scheduled to leave Wednesday are the horses of Mrs. J. Nigro. They are intended for a spring campaign at Riverside Park, Kansas City. W. J. Potter left four horses here in care of M. Fernandez. They are intended for racing at Exposition Park, Aurora, 111.
