JAMAICA OPENS SEASON Metropolitan Jockey Club Meeting First in New York. . Paumonok Handicap Inaugural Feature on April 16 Purse Values Same as in Previous Years. NEW YORK, N. Y., March 24. The setting for the staging of the beginning of the 169 days of the 1932 thoroughbred racing season under the jurisdiction of the Jockey Club, is seen in the Metropolitan Jockey Clubs condition book now being distributed by racing secretary Henry C. Peb-ler. The book contains the list and dates of the running of the eighteen stakes and fixtures to be decided at the Jamaica course, where thoroughbred racing hereabouts is inaugurated each year. It is preliminary to the bugle call to the royal sport that seemingly thrills horse and spectator alike. The meeting at the Jamaica course begins Saturday, April 16, and continues for twenty-two days. President Edward P. Kilroe shows his optimism and consideration for horse owners by maintaining the same liberal purses in every instance as were given during the more prosperous years. Backing ones optimism in this way is no idle gesture, but one of true sportsmanship with a far-reaching -effect. Now as in the past, the Metropolitan Jockey Club is doing its share to restore normal conditions. LARGE DAILY AVERAGE. The stake events to be decided during the meeting have a total added value of 1,-500. The value of the individual offerings range from ,000 to 0,000. In the overnight .events the Association will give 18,-200 in purses, making a grand total of 79,700 for the twenty-two days, an average of ,168 for each racing day. That is the kind of encouragement that wins the favor of those connected with thoroughbred racing. It is a contest for three-year-olds, at one mile and seventy yards, and is scheduled to be run on the third Saturday of the meeting.
