HOME WORKS SECOND VICTORY « Moore Colorbearer Earns Second Purse at Sportsmans Park. ♦ Lowers Track Record for Six and a Half Furlongs — Probationer and Peralta Among Winners. « CICERO, 111., May 5.— F. E. Moores Home Work became a double winner of the meeting when he got away with honors in the Homewood Purse, the feature of the racing here today. Diaquri was the one to be second, and King Cherokee led home Harum Scarum, Brooksie, Bernice Van and Patricia Marian, which finished in the order named. The winner, reserved in the early stages while Diaquri set a dizzy pace, moved up fast after going a half and, continuing gamely, got to the flying leader turning for home and, challenging gamely, disposed of Diaquri to win drawing away. Diaquri enabled the winner to run the distance in the excellent time of 1:21%, a new track record for the six and one-half furlongs, the result of the fast early pace which she maintained for five and one-half furlongs, but the early effort told on her when the real test came. I King Cherokee, a keen factor throughout, held on in game fashion for third. Another large crowd was on hand to witness the sport, which was staged under ideal weather conditions. The aged Peralta, with the veteran W. Taylor in the saddle, turned in a game performance to win the opening dash of about five furlongs. Kukui set the pace to the stretch turn, but failed to repulse the determined bid of the victor and was second, Continued on twenty-ninth page. The performance of Jaipur was a keen disappointment, as he failed to run back to his previous good race. m Probationer, under the colors of W. H Knebelkamp, scored in a driving finish nm the second race, which engaged maiden juve- i niles. He outfinished Chicaloo, and third place went to Noahs Mary. Dawn Patrol upset calculations when he proved best of the nine platers that started in the third race. Regal Knight was second and Blighter outstayed My Inver for the third. Genuine, the favorite, failed to be a factor. Another upset occurred in the fourth race when High Color, the well-backed favorite, was decisively beaten. Take Off was an easy winner, while Thistle Duke, an outsider, closed an immense gap to get up in the final strides for second place. Lothario, another that was neglected in the wagering, outfinished Shorty for third.
