MITTENS AWARDED PURSE MONTREAL, Que., June 18. The stewards representing the Connaught Park Jockey Club and D. S. Gillies in charge of affairs for the Canadian Racing Associations, upheld the protest against the shortage of weight on P. B. Codds Menelek, winner of the first race last Saturday. B. S. Michell, who saddled Mittens for Godfrey Preece, filed a written protest with the stewards Monday, claiming that Menelek was not entitled to a three pound allowance for a gelding, as that racer is a three-year-old colt and consequently not entitled to the allowance that was claimed at the time of entry. The action of the stewards resulted, in Mittens receiving first money, A. G. Dun-laps Little Jay was moved into second place and third given to Greylock, from the H. E. Thomas stable, and Light Nun placed fourth.
