: g LAST DAY AT THISTLE DOWN Large Saturday Crowd Turns Out as Thirty-Four Day Meeting Closes. Col. Cloister Scores Popular Victory in Exciting Finish of the Second Prlncipio Makes Score Three Out of Four. CLEVELAND, Ohio, Aug. 20. The Thistle Down Jockey Club dropped the curtain this afternoon on a successful meeting, which lasted for thirty-four days. There was no indication today that Cleveland fans are tiring of racing, for they turned out in regular Saturday style. There will be no more racing in this district until Wednesday, when Bain-bridge Park opens again. Todays crowd was highly pleased with the results of several races. The well backed Col. Cloister came through as the survivor in a great finish in the second event, and Principio, although not the favorite, made his score three out of four for this meeting when he passed Thomas Seth and drew away from him to win the third. Most favorable conditions prevailed for the running of the concluding days program. The weather was ideal, the track fast and an excellent half holiday crowd witnessed the sport. One of the best finishes came with the running of the second race, the winner turning up in Col. Cloister, the favorite. He followed the pace of Parkersburg and Artistry for half the trip, gained steadily through the stretch and got up in the last f ew yards. Parkersburg barely lasted to save the second award from the stoutly finishing Donna Linda, which came with a brilliant rush on the outside. Greenwald scored his second victory at this meeting when he headed the pacemaker, Bal Ele, in the last few strides of the opening dash. Bal Ele opened up a winning lead after rounding the far turn, but he failed to withstand the winners challenge. Lucky Prospero, a keen factor throughout, barely saved the minor award from the resolutely finishing Miss Onine. Algol, prominent in the early stages, weakened in the stretch run. "Doc" Watsons Principio scored his third Continued on twenty-second page. Thomas Seth and My Ideal both came from the rear in the run home to get the minor awards. White Knee raced all around his field and, overhauling Wind Flower, the pacemaker, in the final eighth of the fourth race, had enough in reserve to withstand the final bid of Knee Glader. Bavelle Fronk came from the rear to beat the others home. Arrowlike, the favorite, was crowded back immediately after the start, which ruined hia chances. Batty carried the colors of Mrs. E. A Ketchell to her second victory in as many starts here when she was returned winner of the Guardian Fidelity Purse, fifth and feature event. Taking the lead with a rush while rounding the far turn, the filly drew away in the stretch, winning with much to spare. Pan, the pacemaker, was best of the others. Astute gamely retained a slight margin over Dark Abbot for third through the stretch, during which the favorite raced in close quarters next the inner rail.
