OMAREENS LUCKY VICTORY Takes Niagara Falls Feature After Securing Clear Sailing When Winifred Ann Goes Wide. NIAGARA FALLS, Ont, Aug. 20. A claiming event named the Laura Secord brought out the best platers quartered at the track and served as the feature offering at Stamford Park this afternoon. Omareen, the black son of Omar Khayyam Mavour-neen, carried the blue and white silks of C. N. Mooney to victory over Mrs. A. Lang-muirs Winifred Ann, while the Mayfair Stables Watergap took the show portion of the purse. The victory marked Omareens first triumph this year and was very fortunate to receive clear sailing on the inside in the stretch run when Winifred Ann came to the center of the track. Starter Eowe sent them away from a moving start, and Winifred Ann rushed into the lead rounding the first turn, followed ! by Watergap and Crescent City, and the positions were the same until the stretch was reached. Here Crescent City dropped back, and Omareen moved through on the inside, catching the leader, which had been taken off the rail to the center of the track and was widening his margin when the finish was reached. Winifred Ann continued gamely, lasting long enough to stall off Watergap, which came with a rush in the final sixteenth. The track was in a heavy condition from the previous days rain. The weather was ideal, with a cool western breeze sweeping the track. The crowd was the largest of the present meeting.
