GYRO, much the best, was in close quarters early and, sharply forced to the inside on the far turn, saved ground entering the stretch and, closing fast, wore down the leaders and won easily. SALUT DAMOUR showed speed, was rushed into a long lead and held on fairly well. AVAIL, a factor from the start, rallied mildly in the stretch, but tired in the late stages. KENTUCKY MOON, far back for half a mile, closed with a rush. POPO lacked room repeatedly, stumbled in the stretch and did not fully recover. EVIDENTLY tired. CATWALK could not overtake the leaders and quit. IL TROVATORE, fractious at the post, began very slowly and was forced back when moving up. NORTHERN SIR, rated close to the pace, bore in after reaching the stretch, was taken to the outside of LORD DEAN with difficulty in the final eighth and, closing gamely, was up to win in the final strides. LORD DEAN, taken into the lead and steadied along for three-quarters, withstood pressure, but tired in the last seventy yards. BLOW FLY began slowly, lost ground on the turn and, closing fast, was wearing down the leaders. LAZY MARY also slow to get going and far out of it for three-quarters, closed fastest of all. SCANDAL SHEET had no mishaps. GAY PRINCE could not get up. AMERICAN QUEEN showed speed, but bore out on the turn and quit in the stretch. BALLYGRAN began fast, was restrained for half a mile, easily" wore down PRINCE SULIEMAN and bore out when holding on stubbornly near the end. SPICSON began slowly, lost ground and closed with a rush. BRIGHT CHESTNUT met interference in the stretch and closed fast. PRINCE SULIEMAN quit badly after showing good speed to the stretch.
