EMPIRE CITY TRACK SLOPPY Heavy Rains Cause of Numerous Withdrawals From Races. Evergreen Purse Results in Interesting Contest With Happen, Outstaying Al Neiman in Hard Drive. r NEW YORK, N. Y., Oct. 27. A track that was fetlock deep in slop, the result of heavy rains during the night, played havoc with-the program that was scheduled for decision at Empire City this afternoon. Mudlarks were again in demand and scratches were plentiful. The weather cleared up before the running of the first race and a surprisingly large crowd was on hand to witness the-jrun-ning of the different events. The Evergreen Purse, a dash of one mile and a sixteenth for three-year-olds and over, under claiming conditions, was offered as the feature and this brought about a spirited finish, -in which Mrs. George Fox Happen, ridden by J. Stout, proved the winner over J. H. Louchheims Al Neiman, while a fast-finishing third was the B. B. Stables Wishing Star. Eight started, with considerable support given to several of the starters. There was no delay at the post and the field left in good alignment. Torealong was slow to settle in his stride and was quickly far back, while Horn sent Al Neiman into command at once. He rated him along steadily and Capacity was after him, with Tetrarchal in third place. There was no change in these positions until the far turn was reached, where Happen was sent to the outside. In a drive through the stretch Capacity tired and dropped back. Al Neiman held on gamely, but could not withstand the rush of the winner at the end. In the meantime Wishing Star, from a slow beginning, had improved his position and at the finish was going fastest of all. Mrs. T. R. Queens Mamas Choice, ridden by D. Bellizzi, came with a rush through the stretch and wore down the leaders to Continued on twenty-first page. 1 ; ! i J 3 1 3 1 i ; EMPIRE CITY TRACK SLOPPY Continued from first page. account for the first race of the day. Zorana, in the Newtondale stable, was second, with P. S. P. Randolphs Oral third. Thirteen started and, from a good break, Zorana rushed into command at once. She showed . speed in the going while Mamas Choice and Oral were racing forwardly. Turning for home Bellizzi took to the outside of the leaders and, in a furious drive, Mamas Choice proved best. Zorana was tiring, but managed to beat Oral, which, in turn, outlasted Golden Princess. The latter dropped back after the break, worked her way up on the outside and finished fastest of all. Some Knight won the second race, Beguile and Craigco finishing second and third, respectively. The latter was the one to cut out the early pace, but Henson kept Some. Knight in a forward position all the way, on the outside, while Beguile was racing along the inner rail. Swinging for home, Craigco began to falter and then the winner moved up on the outside.. Beguile came on the inside and the three staged a battle to the end that resulted in the score for Some Knight. Royal See scored a handy victory Jn the third race of the day. Jesting was second, with Heartbreak third. There was scant delay at the post and when the break was effected Pwobertson had Royal See away in motion. She displayed a high turn of speed in the going and saved much ground at the far turn. When settled in the stretch run. Jesting moved up gamely on the inside, but could not seriously threaten the winner, while Heartbreak faltered under pressure at the end. Capitalist, ridden by Bernius, accounted for the fifth race. Rye finished second, while Shady Girl was third. The winner was a receding choice in the calculations and when steered to the outside of the pacemakers in: the stretch proved much the best, drawing away and winning by two lengths. Shoot was a driving winner of the final race of the day. Daily News was second, while The Crane was third. Shoot overcame minor interference on the first turn, moved, up fast on the outside, and was then placed under restraint.
