Smith was suspended for the remainder of the meeting by the stewards for his rough riding with Quarter Deck in the sixth race Wednesday, when he interfered with Night Patrol and Avalon on the first turn. Jockey E. Smith was suspended for the remainder of the Laurel meeting for crossing in front of his field sharply, with Quarter Deck, in the sixth race Wednesday. Charles Garrigan unloaded Hazel Gum-berts, Indian Witch, Greylock and one other racer at Laurel Thursday morning. This consignment, along .with Red Ronald and Wacket, owned by J. J. Burns, arrived from Canada, where the racing season ended Saturday. James Milton, starter on all mile tracks in Maryland, will leave for Philadelphia Sunday to confer with Kaelker Brothers regarding the fifty-one day meeting to be staged by the Havana-American Jockey Club. Air King, owned by W. Sauer, a scheduled starter in the second race Thursday, was excused by the stewards when trainer D. Eldron discovered that the racers leg filled after being galloped during work hours. Jockey R. Workman reported sick to the clerk of the scales and cancelled his mounts for Thursday. Jockey McTaggart of Baltimore, who has been ill at his home since Saturday, plans to resume riding Monday at Pimlico. Jockey A. Snyder suffered an injured left leg when Peturnal dropped dead under him Wednesday. It was impossible for the lad to get a shoe on Thursday morning and he may have to remain idle until the Pimlico meeting. Horsemen who witnessed the running of Wednesdays feature are high in their praise of the great ride put up by Harvey Elston to drive A. C. Bostwicks Mate into second money, three-quarters of a length back of Jack High. It was Mates best race of the year and if Elston is not forced to go to Kentucky to handle H. P. Headleys Technique Saturday he will pilot Mate in the 5,000 Washington Handicap at this course. President Andrew J. Cummings of the Maryland State Fair, Inc., tendered a luncheon in the club house prior to the days sport for State Senator Milliard E. Tydings and the members of the Maryland Racing Commission. Mrs. Clyde Phillips, owner of Marcasite, has purchased Lei, two-year-old chestnut gelded son of My Play and Tahiti, at private terms from William Ziegler, Jr. She plans to campaign her stable during the winters racing at New Orleans. Race secretary Joseph McLennan issued the condition books for the- Bowie meeting, which opens November 14. Instead of hanging up his tack at the conclusion of the Pimlico meeting, Mack Garner, winner of more than 1,000 races during his long career, will go to Bowie to pilot Joseph E. Wideners thoroughbreds. Trainer Henry McDaniel has nominated the Widener horses for all the. Bowie stakes. Jockey D. Bellizzi, who has been a sensation since arriving in New York, will report for duty at Pimlico. Frank Capra will handle his book. The Warm Stables Sabula has been shipped from Lexington, Ky., to Pimlico, where she and Florida Blossom will be pointed for the 0,000 Futurity next month. J. C. Fletcher shipped his stable into Pimlico from Canada. He was accompanied by jockeys S. Madeley and Parker. Jockeys Frankie Dougherty and F. Town-row were arrivals from Canada. W. C. Dunford has purchased the contract which T. Glascow held on the apprentice J. Burrill. Trainer Peter E. Fitzgerald shipped the horses of Mayor Frank Hayes of Water-bury, Conn., over to Pimlico.
