CHAMPIONSHIP A SCRAMBLE Victory of Gallant Sir Adds New Claimant for the Throne of Three-Year-Old King. LATONIA, Ky., Nov. 7. Race fans were still discussing Gallant Sirs smashing and victorious effort in the Championship today. General opinion was that the decisive way in which he defeated Gusto and Mad Frump certainly threw the three-year-old crown, or championship, into a dizzy whirl, with no less than four claimants Gallant Sir, Fair-eno, Burgoo King and Gusto. Gallant Sir gave a remarkable performance in winning the Latonia Championship, and it is a question whether Faireno and Burgoo King at their best could have dealt successfully with the son of Sir Gallahad III., here Saturday. It was his race from start to finish, and while Mad Frump came through with the best performance of his career, the Whitney colt never had a chance with the N. W. Church star. Some time this week Gallant Sir, along with Plucky Play, Sundot and Northgalis, will be shipped to Mr. Churchs Mira Monte Stock Farm, there to rest for some weeks before going into training for the Agua Caliente and later 1933 engagements. Plucky Play also will be pointed for the Agua Caliente or the Cuban Grand National. His condition is much improved, and trainer E. L. Fitzgerald looks for him to stand another light campaign following a rest. If it is decided to start Plucky Play in the Cuban Grand National, he may make the trip from Agua Caliente to Cuba by boat. While his older stable companion goes after the Island race, Gallant Sir would go it alone in his bid for victory in the Agua Caliente race, which Plucky Play failed to win last year. Upon arrival at Mira Monte, trainer Fitzgerald will put the seven Northway Stable yearlings through elementary lessons, and at the same time take up a half dozen older horses that have been running out. Several of the latter are to be disposed of. The filly Galagold, which came here with the main division of the Northway Stable, has been sent to Claiborne Stud, where she will be retired. Next spring she is to be bred to Toro.
