EQUIPOISES MILE IN 1:40 NEW YORK, N. Y., June 1 After the running of the Hollis Stakes at Belmont Park Thursday the crowd had an opportunity to see C. V. Whitneys champion Equipoise in action. The son of Pennant and Swinging had a public trial for the Metropolitan Handicap, which he took down last year, and it was a move to indicate that he is at his best. Showing remarkable early speed, he went the mile in 1:40 with consummate ease. The fractions were :12, :23, :47, 1:00, 1:12, 1:26, 1:40. At all stages of the running the horse was under a nice restraint, and it was a most impressive move.
