QUESTIONNAIRE ON EDGE NOW Works Mile in 1:40 in Preparation for Metropolitan Handicap on Saturday. NEW YORK, N.. Y., June 1. James Butlers Questionnaire worked a mile at Empire City today in 1:40. The trial was highly satisfactory to trainer Johnny Johnson. It puts the finishing touches to this great son of Sting for the Metropolitan Handicap on Saturday. Barring accident the Eastview representative will challenge C. V. Whitneys Equipoise for the right to top the list of handicap performers. "Bob" Smith had the Breakmeade Stables Okapi, the winner of the Toboggan, out on the Belmont Park strip for a sparkling mile in the heavy going in 1:42. Okapi went the first half accompanied by a stablemate. He finished out the final four furlongs with Potentate making the pace. Okapi had little trouble in beating the stablemate to the wire. He pulled -up sound and cooled out nicely. He carries 102 pounds in the Metropolitan and is surely going to prove a tough horse to keep out of the money. Adolphe Pons Swivel, sturdy daughter of Swift and Sure Todke, worked a splendid mile and an eighth in preparation for her New York debut in the Coaching Club American Oaks on June 9. The game filly was caught going the distance in 1:58. Arrowswift accompanied her the last half mile. She cooled out nicely and is fit at the present moment to go to the post. E. R. Bradleys Barn Swallow, winner of the Kentucky Oaks and chief challenger to Swivel in the American Coaching Club Oaks on June 9, at Belmont Park, was out on the training track for a short "blow out." Trainer "Dick" Thompson asking his smart filly for nothing more than a half in :52. She will take a longer workout when the main track dries out. Silvio Coucci, rider of the Greentree Stable and leading jockey at the late Jamaica meeting, has been engaged to pilot Questionnaire in the Metropolitan Handicap Saturday. R. Workman will have the leg up on C. V. Whitneys Equipoise, the favorite.
