WORKMAN COMING TO RIDE IN ARLINGTON FUTURITY Star Jockey to Pilot First Minstrel in Saturdays 0,000 Race Greentree Stable Colt Expected to Show His Best Under Workmans Guidance Mata Hari Remains Favorite ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., July 27. Utmost confidence in First Minstrels ability to be a factor in the 0,000 Arlington Futurity Saturday was expressed today by William Brennan, trainer of the Greentree Stable colt, even though the son of Royal Minstrel was defeated Wednesday by Lady Higloss. Raymond "Sonny" Workman, probably the most finished jockey in America and who went to Saratoga after guiding Equipoise to victory in the Arlington Handicap last Saturday, has been called upon by Brennan to 3 return here to ride First Minstrel in the Futurity. Under Workmans handling, First Minstrel will run the race he is capable of in the Futurity, Brennan believes. In explaining First Minstrels defeat, the trainer said Sylvio Coucci, his rider Wednesday, reported that the colt was too much for him and he did hot have the strength to handle the horse properly and as a result the Greentree racer was unable to hit his stride at any time during the race. Coucci reported to trainer Brennan after First Minstrels first race, in which he narrowly defeated Trumpery with a great rush through the final three-eighths, that the colt had awkward action that day until he was compelled to steady him on the turn. From that point on, the little Italian jockey said, his mount bristled with speed. With Workman riding First Minstrel, Coucc iwill have the mount on Earnings, the half brother to Twenty Grand, which won his first start here and which has shown that he prefers the Futurity distance of three-quarters rather than the shorter races in which he has appeared. Trainer Brennan expressed complete confidence in Workmans ability to bring out First Minstrels best and that being the case, he predicts the colt will give Mata Hari, Singing Wood and the other fast ones in the Futurity, a hard battle. The Dixiana entry of Mata Hari and Far Star still promises to go to the post Saturday a strong favorite, possibly at odds of around 6 to 5. Singing Wood remains the second choice at 5 to 2,, while the Greentree entry promises to be the third choice at about 6 to 1. Following is the probable Arlington Futurity field:- Proable Horse. Wt.
