6 ARRIVE FOR LATONIA OAKS Bamboula and Four Others From Chicago Reach Covington. Closest Race in Years Looked for in Closing Day Feature Race Field of Seven to Run. LATONIA, Ky., July 27. Five three-year-old fillies, representing the best of their sex and age, arrived here this morning from Chicago to fill their engagements in the La-tonia Oaks. This popular old fixture, which tops Saturdays closing day program of the Latonia Jockey Clubs five weeks of racing, will be decided at one mile and a quarter. Headed by A. A. Baronis Bamboula, Illinois Oaks winner and including Charles T. Fishers Esseff, Hal Price Headleys Technique, and B. B. Jones Bright Shadow and Knights Gal, the invaders will attempt to repeat the feat of Wise Daughter, No More, Gold Basis and Late Date, which added the Clipsetta Stakes, the Quickstep Handicap, the Latonia Derby and the Enquirer Handicap to their seasons scores. They were shipped here especially for their stakes engagements, and on only one occasion, the Cincinnati Trophy, which went to Ding Bin, were the locally trained performers able to turn back the invaders. The Independence Handicap failed to draw an invader and it went to Cousin Jo. The five stars of the filly ranks had their final preparation before leaving Chicago and with the exception of an "opener" tomorrow morning, they are ready to contest the ,500 added prize. From all indications, Sam Fursts Bright Bubble and C. E. Hamiltons Edith A., will represent the local colony. The former finished second to Bamboula in the Illinois Oaks and was second to Late Date in Saturdays renewal of the Enquirer" Handicap. The seven probable starters will carry equal weight of 116 pounds. In the event either Bright Shadow or Knights Gal is successful, it will be the third winner the Aud-ley Farm establishment of B. B. Jones, has furnished in the past six years of this stake. Easter Stockings beat Canberra, Pink Lily and others in 1928 and Banner Bright scored over Manta and Alciblades in 1930. Technique will have the opportunity of repeating the feat of Handy Mandy, which Continued, on twentieth page. With the exception of Edith A., which has devoted most of her racing to claiming affairs, the others have met sterner competition. Bamboulas last effort was a victory over Barn Swallow, her conqueror in the Kentucky Oaks, at Arlington Park last week. Esssff has shown exceptionally well in handicaps and over-night affairs and this will be her first Oaks test. Although there is small hope of the Oaks record of 2:02. established by Befuddle in 1924, being equalled, Saturdays race promises a hard fought contest.
