JOHN HASKETT DIES SUDDENLY John M. Haskett, aged 65, well and favorably known Chicago bookmaker and turfman, died suddenly Thursday afternoon. Johnnie, as he was familiarly known in racing circles, had been identified with the sport of racing for many years and probably was the first to conduct a "winter book" in Chicago on the Kentucky Derby. It is said that he lost 00,000 on Black Gold the year he won the Kentucky Derby, meeting all his obligations like the true sportsman he was. Mr. Haskett and Charles Ford were prominent in reviving racing in Chicago, they acquiring the lease on the Hawthorne track, which they still hold. Details as to the funeral service and burial will be published later.
