FASTEST JUVENILES MEET IN ARLINGTON FUTURITY Great Field to Contest for Rich Prize in Arlington Closing Day Feature Dixianas Unbeaten Mata Hari and Far Star Pronounced Public Choice Singing Wood Not Lacking Admirers ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., July 28. Nine of the fastest two-year-olds developed so far this season were entered by their trainers this morning for the 5,000 added Arlington Futurity, feature of Arlington Parks final program tomorrow afternoon. With all starting, the event will have a gross value of 8,195, and be the second richest juvenile stake offered in America during the current season. Dixianas entry of the sensational, unbeaten Mata Hari and the almost equally as fast Far Star, continued to rule a heavy favorite for the three-quarters event, despite late changes in riders made on two of their principal opponents, First Minstrel and Sun Tempest. "Sonny" Workman will have the Greentree colt in place of -Sylvio Coucci as trainer William Brennan believes a strong rider is necessary to obtain best results from the Royal Minstrel youngster. Coucci will be astride Earnings, another Greentree candidate and a half brother to the famous Twenty Grand. George Land, trainer for W. S. Kilmer, sprang a surprise this morning by announcing that he had obtained the services of Mack Garner to guide the speedy Sun Tempest. Garner has ridden three times over the local course, the first time in the 1929 Classic, which he won with Blue Larkspur, the second time in the Post and Paddock Stakes of 1931 in which his mount, Morfair, was beaten a nose by Burning Blaze and more recently in the Classic in which he rode Golden Way into second place. The Dixiana entry is predicted by the experts to rule a pronounced favorite, possibly at slightly better than even money at post time, although some observers say they may go to odds-on. Singing Wood, from Mrs. John Hay Whitneys establishment, continues, to rule the second choice with the Greentree pair third in the betting and Warren Wrights Hadagal fourth choice, even though it is the sole Chicago-owned hopeful. GARNER ON SUN TEMPEST. Garners presence on Sun Tempest probably will swing additional support to the Kilmer colt, thus Norman Churchs Ima Count and Adolphe Pons Discovery remain the outsiders. Ima Count, an improving son of Reigh Count, is the only maiden in the field and his impost will be only 115 pounds. All the others colts will carry 117 pounds, not having won a stake, while Mata Hari will be compelled to pick up a burden of 119 pounds because of her Arlington Lassie Stakes victory and Far Star must carry 116 pounds due to her triumph in the Debutante Stakes at Lincoln Fields. One of the finest programs of the meeting has been arranged by racing secretary Joseph McLennan in support of the Arling- ton Futurity. The semi-features are the Drexel, at three-quarters, which has attracted seven prominent sprinters including Mr. Sponge, Pairbypair, No More. Gift of Roses and Rehoboth, and the City and Suburban Purse, at one mile. In the latter at-, traction are Watch Him, which finished second to the mighty Equipoise in the Arlington Handicap, also Polydorus. Action, Monel, Late Date and other fast milers. Late Date is fresh from her victory in the Enquirer Handicap at Latonia. Mr. and Mrs. John Hay Whitney, of New York, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Fischer, of Detroit,, are expected at Arlington Satur-. day to witness the Futurity in which their stables will be renresentp.rL
