VICTORY FOR NASH BROS iust Girl Takes Measure of We Backed Widener Pair Defeat of Chance Line and Fair sickle Biggest Disappointment of Day at Washington HOMEWOOD 111 June 12 Dust Girl trim threeyearold daughter of Brooms owned by Nash Bros popular Chicago turf patrons was the star of todays racing under splendid conditions at Washington Park The lightfooted Shandon Farm filly got home in front of a fast band in the Southern Parkway Purse a six furlongs race in the honor position on another well balanced and attractive program and the victory her first of the year was the second of the meeting for the stable stableCarrying Carrying 105 pounds which was five pounds over what conditions prescribed and running the distance in the good time of 112 she won by a length with the Audley Farms Bright Shadow a rank outsider sec ¬ ond a head before the Blue Ridge Farms Dusky Devil DevilFor For this the entry of J E Widener largely on the strength of Chance Lines speed was made favorite and the failure of bojh the mentioned colt and his stablemate Fairsickle to finish among the leaders was the big disappointment of the day After Afterleading leading in commanding fashion to the stretch Chance Line tired badly while his companion was never much of a factor They finished fifth and sixth respectively respectivelythe the fourth or consolation portion of the purse going to Navanod which was the second choice BALASKIS WELL TIMED HIDE HIDEChance Chance Line and Bright Shadow were out in front with plenty to spare for more than four furlongs when the winner under a well timed ride by Lester Balaski began to move up Entering the final furlong where Bright Shadow went to the front the Shandon filly came past the tiring Chance Line to take over the runnerup position and after a mild duel supplanted Bright Shadow in front drawing away slowly in the last fifty yards Showing game efforts Navanod and Dusky Devil fought it out to the smallest possible difference for third which went to the latter and they were only onlya a head back of the Audley filly Incidentally Bright IncidentallyBright Shadow was the first Audley starter starterof of the year The sixth race or Kimbark Avenue Claim ing Purse also decided over six furlongs was won by Mr Joe under the J G Good Goodwiri wiri colors He outstayed Cabezo in another close finish with Blue Day third and Gail lardia fourth Bedight Wacoche and Wise Ways also were in action hee heeRacing Racing on the outside and getting up in the final strides Erech captured top honors in the opening race which furnished one of the most spectacular finishes of the meet ¬ ing 3when four of the six contestants fin ¬ ished short margins apart The result in which Saracen Maid was second and Flick Flickamaru amaru third furnished a great deal of disap ¬ pointment for the form players arid follow ¬ ers of the popular C C Van Meter stable as Long Bit the Van Meter colorbearer and a 23 to 20 choice was kept out of the leading places Flickamaru defeating him by a head for minor honors There was a similar distance between Flickamaru and Saracen Maid with Erech only a neck be ¬ fore the latter latterWESTROPE WESTROPE NOT TO
