HOMEWOOD 111 June 16 Navanod handsome brown son of Hourless and Black Flight racing for the Brentwood Stable of Rogers Caldwell Nashville sportsman ac ¬ counted for the Francis S Peabody Memo ¬ rial Handicap at Washington Park here this afternoon with a stretch run that carried him nearly three lengths clear of Norman W Churchs veteran Plucky Play The lat ¬ ter finished the mile and a quarter journey with a neck advantage over the Coldstream Studs Marmion and Clarify was fourth to finish of the eight older horses clashing for the winners purse of 2140 2140Carrying Carrying 106 pounds and capably ridden by Jack Westrope Navanod showed good speed throughout the race but was cleverly rated until reaching the stretch Here Clarify which had taken command in the run to the clubhouse turn began to tire and the Hourless fouryearold went to the front with a rush that brought him home with much to spare although Westrope took no chances chancesPlucky Plucky Play backed into favoritism al ¬ though there had been no reports on his training at Arlington Park handled his top impost of 118 pounds well as he was well rated along the rail within a few lengths of the leader all the way around outside in the final quarter Myrtle Brooks was third after having been in the thick of contention throughout Jay D and Lady Louella had the most early speed but tired in the last furlong Little Cynic was well backed backedMichael Michael Poisons Australian horse Tre vallion was installed favorite in the third race at a mile and seventy yards but while showing improvement over his only other public outing of the year he could do no better than finish third behind J Emerys Four Spot and Unkie Tom TomIn In scoring his second straight victory and first for his new owner Four Spot followed the pace closely and then withstood a hard drive to defeat Unkie Tom by a length Trevallion was just a neck farther away and probably would have been second but for bearing out in the stretch W Hanka guided the winner winnerAfter After showing better behavior at the post Mcane Keala raced to a decisive triumph in the fifth race for plater sprinters The vet ¬ eran representative of Mr and Mrs J L Wilson had her speed from the start and following Prince Sulieman closely until reaching the stretch wore him down readily to go on to a margin of two and a half lengths The latter tired slightly near the end and just nosed out Lady Va Va which had come from far back H Hughes rode the winner his second of the day
