SUBSTITUTE FOR HANDICAP Post Dispatch Handicap at Fair mount Called Off Favorites Fail Public Choices Have Another Poor Day at atCollinsville Collinsville Mamie D Finally Makes MakesGood Good in Second COLLINSVILLE 111 June 16 Failing to fill the original St Louis Post Dispatch Handicap for threeyearolds and over in which top weight of 120 pounds was assigned Flying Cadet and not accepted by Mrs J Buries racing secretary R A Leigh was forced to substitute the original second race for twoyearolds an allowance affair and run it as the sixth event It brought together such good youngsters as Baby Sweep win ¬ ner of his last three starts the E K Bryson pair Specs and Blind Star Raffles Problem Uall Query Alwin French Servant Clamp and Rambling Along AlongClear Clear weather with a light breeze made racing conditions perfect and another large halfholiday crowd came out to the course to enjoy the eightrace program programIt It was another bad day for form players The first three failed today and when George Maypole finished first in the fourth he was the first winning favorite to earn a purse in the last twelve races racesMamie Mamie D which races for R T Watts earned her first purse of the year in the second race when she Avon from Sis Largo Santa Cruz and nine other threeyearolds and over Apprentice R Moon had the daughter of Hourless off swiftly rated her behind False Piety and Title Star the first quarter and coming to the outside of the leaders on the far turn was running easily while following the leader Entering the straightaway Moon let the Watts filly have her head and wearing down Title Star a sixteenth out had to stand a drive to repulse Sis Largo and Santa Cruz in the final stages stagesAn An upset occurred in the third race which was for threeyearolds and over at five and onehalf furlongs The winner turned up in I Seybolds veteran fiveyearold Green Wave sent here recently from Riverside Park He was winner by two lengths from Wind Song with Big Lady saving the show showAfter After finishing second in his last two races here George Maypole which races for J J Coughlin finally found a band of horses he could beat Beth Hogan was second to the son of Polymelian with Gulfelano saving third in the fourth race which was over six furlongs Jockey W Boganowski had the mount on the winner and after being outpaced in the early run ¬ ning began to move up entering the stretch In the straightaway Boganowski had the Coughlin horse in fourth position less than two lengths behind the leaders In the last sixteenth the big handsome son of Poly ¬ melian came away from his opponents and had a length lead at the finish Beth Htigan after making the pace all the way hung on gamely to garner second by a length from the fast moving Gulfelano
