KILMER FILLY SCORES Second Straight and Fourth at Detroit for Polly Hundred. ♦ — 00 Yearling in Fair Fields Stable: Threatens Record — Sun Lure ! t Among Days Winners. DETROIT, Mich., July 9.— The Fair Fields Stable colors of Mrs. Willis Sharpe Kilmer, j which have played a very important part in Detroit juvenile racing, were seen again in victory when Polly Hundred scored her second straight victory and her fourth of the meeting in accounting for the Saline Purse, which topped an eight-race program at the Fair Grounds here this afternoon. At the end of the five-furlong dash, which served as the third race, the daughter of Polymelian and Skyblue Pink, which was purchased at Saratoga for 00, had a five- I length advantage over Phil T. Chinns McCarthy, which beat Miss Wise a neck for j the second award. Maple Prince was fourth, with Vee Eight completing the field. Although the winner gave her backers, which installed her at the prohibitive odds of 2 to 5, anxiety as Vee Eight went out to show the way in the run to the far turn, she removed all doubt as to her ability when F. Fernandez drove her to the front shortly after leaving the back stretch. From there on she increased her advantage and in the final furlong Fernandez began to ease her up. After the opening quarter Vee Eight began to tire and Miss Wise supplanted her at forcing the pace. McCarthy, which had trailed the field to the stretch, also made up ground and when Critchfield sensed Miss Wise had no chance of overtaking the winner he began to ease her up. This proved costly, for McCarthy charged down to beat her in the final strides. While Vee Eight quit badly. Maple Prince received little help from the incompetent T. Fitzwater. Under 111 pounds, Polly Hundred ran the distance in :59%, or within four-fifths of a second of the track record. With ideal weather prevailing, one of the largest week-day crowds of the meeting was present for the sport, which was decided over a fast track. The first surprise of the afternoon came with the running of the fourth race when H. C. Munsons Wild Law, lightly regarded in the wagering, was the winner. After trailing his opponents to the stretch, the winner came through on the inside to beat Black Diamond slightly more than a length with the well backed Commandman third, a neck back of Black Diamond and a half length before Athol. After March King was withdrawn when he went lame in the paddock only seven started. More Anon rushed into the lead soon after the start and drew away from Commandman, The Judge and Exhibition in the first quarter. Turning into the stretch Black Diamond came outside the others with the winner driving through near the rail. At the end of five-eighths Black Diamond had reached the lead but the winner soon took command and with L. After nineteen unsuccessful efforts this year and two last season the Starmount Stables Black Song registered his first success when he was ridden out in defeating eight other three-year-old maidens. At the end of the three-quarters dash, that served as the introductory, Lenawee was second, with Bell Man third. While the winning son of Black Servant and Marie Odile outsprinted his rivals from the start and drew away to a good advantage in the run to the far turn, Lenawee was forced to improve his position gradually. Bell Man, which caused the long delay at the start, came from far back to earn third Jane Hastings and Genipa, which offered Black Song mild threats in the opening half mile, quit badly in the last quarter. Fred Alger, Jr.s Detroit-owned Sun Lure made good for her backers that installed her a 7 to 10 choice when she lasted to beat Dixianas Brindle by a neck at the end of the second race. Imperial Jack, another locally-owned juvenile, was third, three-quarters of a length back of Brindle and two lengths before Jake Blieden. Eight two-year-olds started, with Jake Blieden taking command soon after the start. In the run to the stretch Leslie Dronet saved the winner back of the pace, but in the final furlong Sun Lure forged to the front and held on gamely as Brindle came with his belated charge. Merry Go Round, which unseated her rider several times during the parade to the post and at the start, raced up with the leaders during the first quarter, but quit badly in the final drive. Dronet rode his second winner when he brought A. L. Copeland, Jr.s Red Run to the finish of the fifth race an easy winner over The Hun, Sophist and six others. Taking command soon after the start, the winner increased his advantage as the journey progressed to have a three lengths margin at the end. While The Hun raced on the outside and came with a rush to beat Sophist by a nose, the latter was shuffled back at the end of three furlongs and tired after being rushed into contention in the final furlong. Grand Champion, which was favorite over the winner, had a rough journey. * _
