1 DETROIT TURF NOTES 1 •$ — Charles Gross arrived from Chicago with High Clover and Proposing, which he trains for Charles T. Fisher, and Sizzling, that runs for his qwn account. Jockey R. G. Cooper and C. Fitzwater accepted their first mounts of the meeting Saturday. George Morris Van Diego, which broke down while running in the fifth race Saturday, was destroyed. He was a three-year-old son of Don Diego. J. McGraw, who was kicked while saddling Lady Menifee for her last engagement, is still confined to his apartment. McGraw is suffering from a badly lacerated leg. H. C. Hatchs Boys Howdy was breezed for his first time Sunday morning since returning to training. He was sent a slow half mile. An effort will be made to save Irvine Korts Miss Kentucky for a matron. The filly came out of her Saturdays engagement with a fractured ankle, and the injured member has been put in a cast. Two carloads of horses arrived from Latonia Monday morning. One car contained the Young Brothers stable and was headed by the crack filly, Fiji. The other car contained the horses of F. F. Brant, E. E. Slick, F. P. Letellier, W. F. Hausman and L. Jones and Son. J. B. Respess wired that he was sending fourteen head here Tuesday. Shepherd Boy, Broadcaster and Poke-away, which H. C. Hatch purchased from Laffoon and Yieser, arrived from Latonia and were turned over to Lloyd Gentry. Johnny Mattioli led the riders during the past week with seven winners to his credit. Mack Winters came next with six, and F. Mauro was third with five. Theodore E. Mueller, member of the Kentucky State Racing Commission and owner of the Shady Brook Farm and stables, was a visitor today and viewed the running of the first race from the stewards stand. Jockey J. Mattioli canceled his mounts Monday due to the illness of his wife. «
