PLANS FOR SHAFFER STABLES Coldstream Stud and Elmer Dale Shaffer Prepare to Make Arlington Stakes Objectives. LEXINGTON, Ky.f March 30. The Coldstream Stud Stable, owned by Charles B. Shaffer, and the horses of his son, Elmer Dale Shaffer, will make the July racing of the Arlington Park Jockey Club a high point in their campaign this season, trainer Alex Gordon said today, just after he had sent his twenty charges through their daily exercise over Coldstreams private track. Leading member of the stable is St. Bernard, which sports the silks of the younger Shaffer. This handsome home-bred son of Bulldog and Eager Cissy is a candidate for the outstanding three-year-old events, such as the Classic at Arlington Park, which his owner is especially anxious to win, being a Chicagoan. St. Bernard was narrowly defeated in the Arlington Futurity last summer by Toro Nancy, but he distinguished himself otherwise, listing the Bashford Manor Stakes among his accomplishments. Trainer Gordon is confident the son of Bulldog will make himself very prominent in three-year-old racing this season. In Finance, Gordon has another son of Bulldog he believes will give a good account of himself this season. The Coldstream Stud has designs on both the Arlington Futurity, a 0,000 affair, and the 5,000 Arlington Lassie Stakes, having four of its two-year-olds nominated for the former and three juvenile fillies for the latter. All of its candidates for the two important Arlington events are sons or daughters of Bulldog, with the exception of a colt by Brown Bud, which is a half brother to High Quest, winner of the Preak-ness last spring. Detailed plans for the Shaffer horses have not been completed as yet, but very probably the stable will go to Belmont Park upon its departure from Kentucky and then be transferred to Arlington Park about mid-June to await the assault on the major prizes to be offered by the Arlington Park Jockey Club.
