j MARYLAND RELIEF BILL IN GOVERNORS HANDS !i ANNAPOLIS, Md., March 30. The Milll-ken bill, drafted to relieve Maryland race tracks of burdensome taxes, is now on the governors desk awaiting his signature. Only three dissenting votes were cast against it in its course through the legislature. The senate last night passed it, 26 to 1, while the vote on it in the lower house was 117 to 2 earlier in the week. The Milliken bill reduces the daily tax of ,000 per day heretofore exacted from the four mile tracks Pimlico, Bowie, Havre de Grace and Laurel to ,000 per day. The mutuel take is increased from 7 to 7 per cent, with the breaks to the nickel, and the state will receive 2Vs per cent instead of 1 per cent, as last year. This reduces the tracks share from 6 to 5 per cent. In addition, the tracks, under the provisions of the Milliken bill, must pay the state 25 per cent of their net profits annually. Pimlico remains the "most heavily taxed of the Maryland tracks, as it is required to, pay Baltimore County ,000 daily, as well as the fixed assessment to the state.
