1 BOWIE TURF NOTES . 4, Vincent Mara has been appointed as trainer of the L. E. Keiffer stable. Mara takes over his new affiliations immediately and should have much success with the ten juveniles that he has been commissioned to handle for the master of Inverness Farm. Present plans call for the stable to remain in Maryland for the entire spring season. New Deal, one of the leading handicap performers in Florida last winter, is recovering rapidly from a cyst operation, according to trainer G. D. Cameron. New Deal is owned by the Araho Stable. John B. Campbell, who has been appointed to serve as racing secretary on all tracks in New York, received an order to send the conditions book to Val Crane, well known sportsman, who is now in Chicago preparing his horses. Alfred G. Weston, who serves in the stewards stand at Bowie, was notified of the death of a filly foal by Sir Greysteel Jaffa, which died at birth at Robert Wal-dens Brook Farm. The following eight nominations were received by racing secretary J. B. Campbell for the Southern Maryland Handicap, which is to be decided here on the closing day of the meeting. The list is made up of Chat-moss, St. Moritz, Good Harvest, Evergold, Dust Girl, Dogmata, Lynx Eye and Stand Pat. The first issue of the condition books, embracing twelve days of the Metropolitan Jockey Club meetng at Jamaica, Long Island, were distributed among horsemen by J. B. Campbell. Four stakes will be run during the meeting of twenty-one days, including the Wood Memorial, Paumonak Handicap, the Excelsior Handicap, and the Youthful Stakes. "The apprentice allowance was waived on Ilchester, a starter for Howard Bruce in the sixth race Saturday, and the racer picked up five pounds additional to make his impost 115 pounds. Condition books embracing the first six days of the Harford Agricultural Association meeting at Havre de Grace, beginning April 15, are off the press and were distributed among the horsemen at Bowie Saturday. Four valuable stakes, including the Harford Handicap, Chesapeake Stakes, Aberdeen Stakes and Philadelphia Handicap will be decided. Mortimer Mahony, major-domo of the mu-tuel department at Bowie, stated that the following amounts were handled on the "Daily Doubles", starting with the opening of the meeting: Tuesday, 1,500; Wednesday, 4,804; Thursday, 5,052; Friday, 9,320; Saturday, 0,934. Jockey C. Reid was taken ill and cancelled his mounts Monday. The apprentice allowance was waived on Foreign Lady and, the plater carried 110 pounds Tommy Kelly, of Baltimore was an arrival from California with Lou Machedo, the property of C. S. Howard,, a West Coast sportsman.
