ANOTHER BAY MEADOWS POSTPONEMENT Inclement Weather Makes It Necessary to Declare Off Mondays Racing Sport to Be Resumed Today With New Entries SAN MATEO, "Calif., April 8. Bay Meadows was rained out again Monday. For the second time in a week it was found necessary to cancel thp races because of bad track conditions. Due to the fact that many owners with horses entered for Mondays program wished to scratch, fearing that their representatives could not run in the difficult going, general manager William P. Kyne decided to permit them all to withdraw and called off the program. A new set of entries was taken Monday morning and racing will be resumed Tues- day, with mud runners having another chance to pay their board bills. It was just another bad break for the California Jockey Club, which by this time should be hardened to adverse conditions. However, if the law of averages means anything, Bill Kyne and his associates should get at least one good break during the meeting and, perhaps, it will come in the form of sunshine and good weather for the remainder of the week. Should the Tanforan track be ready to open April 20, and there is little doubt but that it will, the coming Saturday will be the last "big day" of the present session at Bay Meadows. The ,500 added Berkeley Handicap, at six furlongs, will likely headline Saturdays program at the Meadows. That feature has been twice cancelled, but according to last reports emanating from the secretarys office, was to be the star piece of the weekend. Indiantown, Carisbrooke, Johns Birthday and others which were originally entered will likely parade in the event. For the first twenty-two days of the meeting pari-mutuel business is about 70 less per daily average than at the fall meeting. Had the racing board permitted the management to continue to handle wire bets the "take" this season would have been about equal to that of the fall session. Taking for granted that the rain is over and good weather prevails for the remainder of the week, the average daily handle after Saturdays racing should be in the neighborhood of 0,000. The daily average handle in the fall, due to an exceptionally large take closing day, was over 02,000. Apprentice R. Colpitts, under contract to Li. Copenhaver, continues to show the way to the Bay Meadows jockeys with sixteen victories. Stables that have been doing right well for themselves are those of A. A. Baroni, Percy M. Pike and Mrs. C. B. Irwin. Of course, Mrs. Silas B. Mason is still the leading money winner of the meeting, due to Head Plays victory in the Bay Meadows Handicap.
