NEW YORK TURF NOTES $. : . e R. L. Gerry was a Belmont Park visitor and inspected the horses that he has there which were raced during the winter months. Tom Shaw arrived from an extended California visit and will be in line the opening day at Jamaica. According to gossip Vince Mara, who trained a division of the Wheatley Stable at Hialeah Park during the winter, has succeeded John Hastings as trainer for Leslie Keiffer of Baltimore. Hastings, it is understood, resigned his post, effective this week. Frank Shannon, a recent arrival from Miami is laid up at his hotel with a severe cold. Joseph E. Widener and John Coakley paid a flying visit to Belmont Park to inspect the new stables and other improvements. Joe Healey arrived from Miami and will assist his brother J. Simon in the training of the S. Utterbach horses when they arrive from Columbia, S. C. 1
