- WOMEN RIDERS AT CALIENTE Fair Sex Pilot Starters in Coronado Town Plate Sunday San Diego Girl Rides Winner. AGUA CALIENTE, Mexico, April 8. The Coronado Town Plate, a race for women jockeys, proved to be a real thriller Sunday. The event was run without any mishaps, with the fair sex giving the large crowd a great thrill. Hilda Hauser, San Diego girl, rode the San Diego-bred Quick Return gelding, Pretty Quick, getting a head decision over Christie Flanagan, ridden by Babe DeFriest, with the favored Willie Klein, which had Miss Daisy Parsons up, getting the show money. Miss Hauser rode a heady race. Reserving her mount off the pace to midway of the stretch, she got to the front near the end and battled it out with her field to the wire. Pretty Quick was lightly regarded in the mutuels and paid 2.60. Ten horses went. The time for the six furlongs was 1:14, and was run on a fast track, although the weather was disagreeable and rain threatened all afternoon.
