LATONIA OUTLOOK BRIGHT Close to 1,000 Horses Will Be Available After Close of Churchill Downs Monday. LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 16.— While the Churchill Downs meeting came to a close today, actual operation of the course this spring will not cease until Monday, on which the Kentucky Derby Festival Association benefit will be held. The movement of horses from here to Latonia, which opens one week from today, already is well under way. Quite a few of the larger stables are scheduled to leave for the Covington track over the week-end and departures yesterday from the Downs and Douglas Park added more than 100 horses to the colony already assembled at Latonia. The exodus, however, will not be in full swing until Monday night, when sixteen or more cars, together with many motor vans, will load at the two track and leave, to reach the Covington course early Tuesday. According to information sent here by Latonia officials, more than 300 horses were quartered on the grounds today. These include the several stables that left this area yesterday. Approved Stable applications indicate close to 1,000 horses for the meeting, which will embrace thirty-seven days, closing on Saturday, July 4. Some of the larger establishments include those of Charles T. Fisher, J. B. Respess, C. C. Van Meter, Mose Gold-i blatt, F. P. Letellier, D. W. Butler, Jack Howard, Coldstream Stud, William Crump, I J. G. McAtee, Chappel Brothers, Everglade Stable, J. W. Parrish, R. L. Baker, Mrs. George B. Cox, Mrs. R. J. Murphy and others. In arranging a program in keeping with the fine traditions and importance of the track, the Latonia Jockey Club has doubled the added value of six of seven stakes to be run and with none of the features worth less than ,000, patrons may safely look forward to seeing many of the best horses in action there. On next Saturday, opening day, the Latonia Derby will be run. Having attracted a strong and representative array of subscriptions, this old prize is certain to have one of its best renewals. — a
