I AMONG THOSE PRESENT AT ! PIMLICO FOR 46TH RUNNING ! OF PREAKNESS STAKES i BALTIMORE. Md.. May 16— Many noted leaders in politics, finance, industry, sport and society were seen among the tremend* ous thiong which viewed the forty-sixth running of the Preakness at Pimlico this afternoon. The clubhouse was the mecca for the majority, and many luncheons were given, the hosts including Ral Parr. Silliman Evans. Charles E. McLane, F. G. Riggs, R. J. Walden, S. M. Nicholas, L. H. Skinner, H. S. Horkheimer. J. M. Willie, Elisha Hanson, H. L. Straus, Clarke Polk, U. O. Michael, E. K. Connelly, Mrs. Spalding Lowe Jenkins, S. S. Janney, Capt. P. M. Walker. C. R. Fleishman. Thomas Hitchcock, E. R. Bradley. Mrs. R. H. Heighe, F. J. Buchanan. William Woodward, Miss Grace Baker, Mrs. Thomas H. McCarter and J. W. Gheen. P. A. Markey and Charles Bohn came from Detroit to see their Grand Slam run in the Preakness. C. R. Graham, vice-president of the Railway Express Agency, was a visitor. Walter OKeefe, famous radio and stage star, came from New York for the race. Dr John Freeland, for whom the 1029 Preakness winner was named, was among the New York delegation. Walter J. Salmon, whose colors were carried to Preakness victories by Display and Dr. Freeland, headed a party from New York. J. L. McKenna, vice-president of National Distillers, was in the New York delegation. Walter H. Donovan, president of the National Association of State Racing Commissioners, came from his Florida home to view the classic. Charles W. Bidwill, prominent Chicago sportsman, was among the many from that city here for the Preakness. Senators and Congressmen leaving official duties in Washington for the afternoons sport included Bert Ford. William D. Thomas. Mrs. Daniel ODay, Alfred F. Beiter, and John J. OConnor of New York; William Granfield and Arthur D. Hcaley, of Massachusetts; E. W. Creal, of Kentucky; Sam Collins, John M. Costello and John Steven McGroarty, of California; Leo Koci- alkowski, Thomas J. OBrien and James Mc-Andrews, of Illinois; Maury Maverick, of Texas; William Sears, of Florida, and A. P. Lamneck. Frank L. Kloeb and Robert T. Seer est. of Ohio. J. Edgar Hoover, head of the Federal operatives, was another prominent spectator from the capital city. Sports writers from all parts of the c un-try were here covering the Preakness, among them Damon Runyon, Bill Corum, William J. MacBeth. John J. Fitzgerald, Davis Walsh, Richards Vidmer. Orio Robertson, Norris Royden. of New York : French Lane, of Chicago; Maurice Bernard and Paul Lowry. of Los Angeles; Brownie Leach, of Lexington, Ky., and George Krechbiel, of Detroit.
