OMAHA INAUGURAL MAY 28 700 Horses Expected for Thirty-Three Day Ak-Sar-Ben Meeting — Crack Jockey Colony. OMAHA, Neb., May 16.— By next week-end approximately 700 thoroughbreds are expected to be stabled at the Ak-Sar-Ben racing plant awaiting opening day, May 28, of the 1936 running race meeting. A special train containing eight cars and about 150 runners left the California Bay Meadows track Sunday. It is due here Wednesday. Owners having horses in this consignment are W. J. Potter, L. Clous, W. T. Westrope, H. S. Swift, D. McCown, G. Pruett, L. Copenhaver, R. Hall, P. Knudsen and Ace Hudkins. Racing secretary Eugene W. Bury, who left the Aurora meeting Sunday, informed Ak-Sar-Ben officials that at least 200 will be shipped from Aurora, while others will come from Texas and Kentucky tracks. More than 300 are now under roof here, most of them working out daily for the thirty-three-day program, longest in Ak-Sar-Ben history. The list of jockeys coming here shows some of the nations top riders will be in action. Numbered in the group are C. Shultz, A. Gray, R. Stoddard, W. Merritt, W. Reeves, R Reeves, W. Richardson, S. Erwin, H. Ferguson, F. Chojnacki, D. Bar-nett, J. Donoho, T. Dowell, B. Neal, H. West, F. Finn, C. Hanauer, F. Kurinec, R. Tilden, J. Carnahan, L. Jones, D. Smith, J. Burrill and F. Grill. All key men in the racing organization will be here this week, with Martin Nathan-son, Chicago, presiding steward, reporting Wednesday. Improvements have been about completed at the plant, and by Friday everything will be ship shape for the meeting. •
