TSANTA ANITA TURF NOTES 5 : -$ A recent check with the New York Jockey Club, the official racing body of the nation, shows that there are 209 California owners who have registered home-bred foals in 1938. This is a large increase over past years and shows how firmly the breeding industry is established in California. Apprentice Raymond Adair has affiliated with the stable of O. C. Rasch, Sr. Adair is is close up among the leading riders of the nation and one of the few having a percentage of .16. Andy Gunpere will book his engagements, also those of jockey Alex Schlenker, who will ride free lance. Jockey Ralph Neves, who has been riding in fine form since his return to the saddle last spring, has given trainer M. "Buster" Millerick first call on his services, which means the veteran rider will be astride many j of the C. S. Howard horses in their engage- ments. Dr. J. R. Lpton, among the nations outstanding veterinarians, is an arrival from San Antonio, Texas. While in that region Upton indulged in firing fifteen head of horses and performed a few throat operations, for which he is distinguished. Upton also did a lot of work at Louisville and Arlington, Texas, before coming here.
