LIGAROTI TOP WEIGHT IN NEW YEARS HANDICAP Assigned 126 Pounds in Rich Event of Next Mondays Holiday Card Heelfly and Main Man Next With 119 Each Specify, Recent Conqueror of Ligaroti, Is Listed at 1 18, Bourbon King With 116 ARCADIA, Calif., Dec. 28. Ligaroti, finest of the numerous South American-bred horses yet shown in this country and one of the strong choices for the rich Santa Anita Handicap, has been assigned top weight in the New Years Day Handicap at the Arcadia track. Racing secretary Webb Everett deeming the Binglin crack seven pounds better than any other horse in the event, has placed 126 pounds on his back. The weight is considered just about right for Ligaroti, being two pounds less than he shouldered when beaten a nose by Specify in the San Francisco Handicap at Tanforan. In fact, Specify is giving Ligaroti two pounds because of that nose decision, being in the New Years with 118 pounds, exactly the burden. he packed m the Northern feature. Next to Ligaroti in the New Years weights comes Heelfly and Main Man, each with 119 pounds. Maui Man was a dismal failure in the San Francisco, finishing outside the money. Listed with 114 pounds is the mile and an eighth worlds record holder, Indian Broom, from the stable of Maj. Austin C. Taylor. Indian Broom has been resting in the Los Angeles territory since the Hollywood Park summer meeting, and is reported to be in good condition. Gosum, another that has been enjoying a vacation, and Sweepalot, Harry Curlands chief oat earner, each have 110 aboard. Gosum, which races for Nelson A. Howard, one of the directors of the Los Angeles Turf Club, was a stake winner at Santa Anita last winter. Sweepalot has several handicaps to his credit. Quick Devil, recently purchased by Louis B. Mayer, has 108 pounds, while Galsun and Advocator each have 107. Galsun is a newcomer, but Advocator is well known in the West, having borne the Charles S. Howard colors on numerous occasions. Advocator comes through with some smashing efforts at times. Piccolo, Merrymood and Pageboy are the light weights. Piccolo has 105, Merrymood 104 and Pageboy 102.
