1AYAK II. BACKED HEAVILY"" IN SANTA ANITA HANDICAP S SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Dec. 28. Kayak II., the South American horse which has raced; with distinction since making his first start in the United States last June, has become the medium of a plunge in the future books to win the Santa Anita Handicap. Large sums have been placed here in the last few days On the horse at 100 to 1, with the result that the odds against his chances have dropped to 50 to 1, according to Julius Wild, one of the leading commissioners. The horse is a stablemate of Sea-biscuit. OGrady, an English Importation which has never started here, also has been well played. His price has dropped from 150 down to 60 to 1. Sorteado, still another out-lander, has been cut. from 50 to 30 to 1, and ! Advocator was reduced from 200 to 1 to 80 j to 1. The latter two horses are owned by Charles Howard, as is Kayak II. j Kandahar has been raised to 800 to 1, : Stagehand to 25 to 1, Town Call to 500 to 1 and Wing and Wing to 400 to 1. :
