Paley Buys Best Effort lAnd All Tanner Horses Twelve Others in Addition to Derby Candidate Change Hands! LOUISVILLE, Ky„ May 31.— Claude C. Tanner announced here today that he has sold the Blue Grass Stakes and Derby candidate. Best Effort, and all others of his thoroughbreds with the exception of three yearlings, to Jay Paley of West Los An- geles. Calif., a large stockholder in the Columbia Broadcasting Company. The transaction involves 12 horses, aside , from the Phoenix Handicap winner. These are the three-year-old Dollar Mark and 11 1 two-year-olds. The latter are Air Wing, a I bay filly by Trace Call — By Appointment; Amble In. ch. c, by Fighting Fox — Gay Crest: Rivers End, b. f, by Challenger II. — Businesslike; Teddy Junior, b. c. by Teddys Comet — Mint Tea; Alki, br. c. by Bull Lea — Laris; Lord Robin, b. c, by Reaping Reward — Marciana; Flaming Arrow, b. f, | by War Admiral — Bridal Colors ; Bold Re-! gard, b. c, by Petrose — Pushover; Star Im-1 age. br. f, by Sickle — Buginarug: Great j Moment, blk. f, by Easy Mon — Gorgeous j Lady, and Black Eagle, a black colt by Easy Mon — Lotus Flower. Several of those youngsters have performed at Churchill Downs here this spring, Star Image winning. Bold Regard j was third yesterday in the Bashford Manor j and Air Wing has been second. Star Image j is a sister in blood to By Jimminy and Great Moment a half-sister to Best Effort. Tanner, who has been ill, said that he is acting upon his physicians suggestion , in disposing of his active string.
