Nine Fillies and Mares In New Castle Handicap Legend Bearer and Silver Smoke Entry Favored in 5,000 Race STANTON, Del., June 20.— Col. C. V. Whitneys entry of Legend Bearer and Silver Smoke heads a field of nine fillies and mares named for Delaware Parks New Castle Handicap here tomorrow. The mile and a sixteenth feature is worth 5,000 this season, as compared to 0,0u0 since its inception in 1937, and this will be the eighth running. Incidentally, Colonel Whitney is expected to be among the patrons on hand tomorrow to see his colors carried by his redoubtable pair. Opposing the Whitney duo will be Brookmeade Stables Dare Me, Lazy F Ranchs Plucky Maud, Isadore Biebers Bertie S., Mrs. Gwynne Campbells Nita Jean, Howell E. Jacksons Blue Deck, Mrs. Helene Hag-gertys Rampart, and Mrs. A. S. Dodds Hygros Ginger. Legend Bearer, recently second to Miss Keeneland in the Top Flight Handicap at Belmont Park, is highweight of the field under 125 pounds, three more than the assignment on Dare Me, whose only outing this season saw her last in the Brandywine Handicap, won by Rounders. Silver Smoke, Legend Bearers stable-mate, gets in under 110 and comes to the New Castle off a very fine sprinting victory in New York. Blue Deck raced in the Pimlico Oaks last Saturday and was fifth, this coming after a successful effort here. Serving as supporting attraction on the card is the six-furlong Stanton Handicap with a field of nine named. This group includes M. G. Boffs Skytracer, winner of one division of the New Years Handicap at Tropical Park.
