GALLANT WITCH was hustled to the front early, set the pace under good rating and held sway under intermittent pressure. BLUE POM, a forward factor from the start, was hard ridden in the closing test and made up ground gradually. ILL BE BACK improved his position through the running and was going best at the end. SIR ECHO, off slowly and in close quarters for the first quaiter mile, moved between horses on the turn, loomed dangerously in the early stretch, then hung. BEGGAR raced within striking distance on the o .tside. but failed to respond to pressure. VOYAGEUR tired after the first half. SECOND RACE ABOUT 2 MILES. QlATRE CALL raced nearest the leader throughout, was under strong handling through the closing fmlong and was up in the concluding stride. HAPPY BCCKIE, well rated while showing in front, fought it out gamely and was just nipped. BRIXR RED, badly outrun during the early stages, raced on the outside while improving his position and continued on gamely to the end. BUNK, always well placed, was not good enough. HELEN DEAR came well after being in close quarters on the turn. SNARKLING showed good early speed, then faltered badly. SALLIES broke slowlv. was in close quarters early and failed to rally. POMPION, showing vast improvement over his recent races, was alwjs well plated, rnoxed with a tush when asked and drew clear to win •s rider pleased. OVERUN, showing her usual good eaily speed, set the pace to the midstrelch, then |ave way. NIPPY, in the first flight from the start, moved through on the inside, then hung. She appears ready for her top effort. ABRASION moved well on the turn, then tired. TETRA ROCK dropped back early. GORGET was hari ridden but turned in a miserable race. ROCKWALL showed nothing. LAYAWAY was steadied while well placed early, rallied under good handling and wore down the leaders in the final furlong. HARD HEAD moied to the lead in the early stretch, then fought it out willingly while racing between horses. LANLAST, always a forward factor, was hard ridden in the drive and held on gamely. NOONDAY SUN showed a good effort and would have been closer but for larking racing room in the tin.tl furlong. MAE CASE rallied in the late stretch. HIPPOMENE quit badly after being in front early. SMILING LASS drew clear gradually in the opening half, was perfectly rated to the stretch, then had enough in reserve to otitfinilfc BLACK OBJECT. The latter was lated jiM off the leader, moved up menacingly in the early stretch, was very confidently handled inside the furlong pole, then was hard ridden when it became apparent she was beaten. PRESSURE w.t3 badiy outrun early, saved ground while movinc. but was not good enough. BRIGHT ARGOSY ran an even race. FRIEND OR FOE tired alter three quarters. SERGEANT J. V. raced in contention for a half. BALLAST was snatched up sharply at the break and was unable to do his best when jockey Torres feet became dislodged from the sti nip irons.
